Mind Map Your Life Plan in 5 StepsCindy
Why You Need to Mind Map Your Life Plan?
Have you ever felt afraid of publicizing your dream because it seemed too far to make it come true? I felt this way when I am not working hard enough to achieve my goal. When I was in my senior year at university, I decided to continue my study to get a master’s degree at London University. However, I failed to make the dream a detailed plan, which made my dream a vague picture with blurred lines and elements. That year, I failed the postgraduate qualifying exam and London University has really turned into a dream. Reflecting on my failure of the exam, I attributed it to my daydreaming – indulging in that fantastic dream without taking actions to turn my dream into a practical plan. Life is about going to the unknown. That’s the beauty of it! Mind mapping your life plan makes it real and achievable with practical measures, pushing you towards your dream step by step.
How to Mind Map Your Life Plan?
The narration above explained the importance of mind mapping in making and carrying out an achievable life plan. If you stick to dividing your plan into stages and carrying it out, you are at least no longer a daydreamer but a planner.
Step 1: Think Deeply about What You Truly Want
It’s common that people are greedy for a lot of things – love, fame, money, power, resources, family and friendship, etc. However, it turned out that most people’s eyes are bigger than their stomach and ended up gaining nothing. Make a list covering essential points or fields in your life – family, friendship, relationship, career, health, travel, saving, fashion, etc, then list five things you want most in each field respectively.
Step 2: Make an Objective Self Assessment
Being realistic is better than romantic in most cases. Accepting in a sensible way what it is actually possible to do or achieve in a particular situation is the wisest practice. For example, girls would often dream about marrying a handsome, rich and considerate prince. Take it seriously, dreaming about fine things is good. However, if the girl keeps sitting there doing nothing rather than studying and exercising, how could she improve herself? How could such a price fall in love with her? Take out all your certificates to accurately balance your wants with qualities and Reflect on your qualifications objectively. It’s better to work hard and loses weight than stay poor and putting on weight when dreaming of marrying a prince.
Step 3: Set the Priorities
As mentioned in step 2, you have already listed 5 things you want most in each field. Now you need to set the priorities of your needs according to the urgent degrees and importance. If the girl is jobless, getting a job and buying cosmetics, which is more urgent? Ask yourself how urgent and important the needs are like this, and then leave only one need in each field. The rest options should also be included in your life plan, but details of how can be omitted temporarily.
Step 4: Make a Detailed Plan of the Most Urgent Need
Putting the most urgent and important necessity in the most outstanding place of each branch. Set a detailed plan including the reason you do it, the starting and end date, how to to it( learning resources, learning methods, learning schedule), cost (money, time ) and solutions to difficulties. Detail all the information as meticulous and practical as possible.
Step 5: Execute the Plan Strictly
As the old saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words”. Look up at the starry sky while standing on the ground. The last but not least practice is to implement your plans step by step.
