MindManager Review: Mind Mapping Software for BusinessCindy
MindManager was first born in the 1990s and was called Mindman at that time. After years’ development, it now comes out of the crowd in mind map software market and welcomed in commercial use by business people. Mind Manager charges a volume-based price for Enterprise customers, offering a flexible for organizations and teams.
MindManager is compatible with various popular operating systems, including Windows, Androids, Mac OS and iOS. Windows version supports English, German, French, Russian, Chinese and Japanese while Mac version supports English, German and French.
- Windows：(32/64Bit): Windows 10 / Windows 8 / Windows 7
- Mac：Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or greater
As a leading role in the mind map software market, MindManager also takes a leading position in the price. Comparing with other mind mapping tools such as Edraw MindMaster, FreeMind and Xmind, it’s much more expensive. Besides, you need to pay extra money for the upgraded service in the form of a perpetual license or annual subscription which you may cancel at any time. As is shown below, MindManager charges almost half price of Windows version because it offers fewer features on its Mac versions. Mac users have to think twice before paying.
MindManager 2018 For Windows – Perpetual License
- $349.00 Buy
- $179.00 Upgrade
- $69.00 Upgrade Protection Plan (1 Year) – Windows
MindManager 10 For Mac – Perpetual License
- $179.00 Buy
- $89.00 Upgrade
- $39.00 Upgrade Protection Plan (1 Year) – Mac
MindManager has well inherited the business style of Mindjet and designed its UI similar to Microsoft Office software with a file tab, a quick access toolbar, a ribbon, a task pane, a workbook tab, and a status bar. Besides, MindManager offers several views for working with your map – map view, Gantt view, outline view, linked maps view, analysis view slides to view and walk through a view.
Mobile Mind Mapping with Android and iOS
This can be a selling point of the mind map software. It’s true that opening your mind maps on mobile devices does bring you convenience. However, making a mind map on such a small screen can be tricky. Think about whether you need this functionality seriously.
Project Planning and Task Management
Effective management of expectations and commitments matters a lot to successful project management. MindManager has always been a model mind map software in visualizing goals, validating requirements, managing resources, agreeing on budgets and making preparations.
Integration with Business Applications
So far MindManager is the mind map software that has most integrations with business systems and applications, including Outlook, OneNote, Evernote, Redmine, SDLC. Services, Team Foundation Server, Sharepoint, Google Search, Microsoft Office, and Zapier, etc. Users can share their mind maps and communicate with partners on work flexibility via these channels.
Pros & Cons
- Integration with MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
- Powerful third party addins e.g. Results Manager.
- Expensive pricing plans.
- Cubersome and difficult operations for mind map beginners.
- Slow to open and long processing time.
Comparing with other mind mapping tools such as Edraw MindMaster, Xmind and iThoughts, it’s ancient yet costly. From my experience on trails of various mind map software, you can go for MindManager if you are in the position of project managment which invloves budget, otherwise I recommend you to choose the pro-version of Edraw MindMaster if it meets your demand.
